The Supreme Court will continue to hear appeals in the Zemun Clan case at the District Prison in Belgrade. The five-member trial chamber will review the appeals of all 26 accused, as well as appeals lodged by the Special Prosecutor’s office. Zemun Clan appeal continues The 26 accused were sentenced to a total of 465 years in prison for 18 murders, three kidnappings and two terrorist attacks by the Special Court on January 18, 2008. The Supreme Court received a total of 39 appeals. The hearing is expected to run until October 23. The accused and their lawyers will address the court after the appeals are read out. The initial verdict was delivered by Judge Milimir Lukic, who chaired the three-member trial chamber of the Special Court. The Supreme Court, which will announce its decision in the closed part of the hearing, can either uphold the initial verdict, quash it in whole or partially, or order a retrial. Milorad Ulemek, Milos Simovic, Vladimir Milosavljevic and Sretko Kalinic have been sentenced to 40 years of prison for the crimes in question. The Zemun Clan trial started on October 4, 2004, since which time there have been more than 100 days in court. The trial had to restart from scratch in October 2006, after Judge Marko Kljajevic (presiding) stepped down in August of that year to be replaced by Judge Lukic who delivered the verdict.
