Delta Holding owner trial verdict to be announced June 20

In its closing argument, the office of the prosecutor for organized crime sought 12 years in prison and a fine for Miskovic, whose defense requested an acquittal.

Miskovic said that he expects an acquittal because "whether the Serbian judiciary will steer a course towards Europe depends on it."

The Delta Holding owner said that he only reason for his arrest was to create an atmosphere that Serbia had solved all its problems, and described the charges against him absurd and logic-defying.

The prosecutor's office is seeking a conviction based on impressions only, rather than evidence, Miskovic's attorney Zdenko Tomanovic said earlier on.

Miskovic has been charged with assisting his son Marko in tax evasion, as well as with office abuse after allegedly siphoning money out of road maintenance companies.

Marko Miskovic has been handed three and a half years in prison and a RSD 8 million fine for tax evasion, while his company, Merainvest, was ordered to pay around RSD 320.3 million in taxes. He was acquitted of charges of fraud.

Miroslav and Marko Miskovic were arrested in December 2012. Miroslav Miskovic spent a total of eight months in detention before be was released on EUR 12 million bail.
