Karadžić to make court appearance

Radovan Karadzic will not appear before the Hague Tribunal on Monday, but will attend the status conference on Tuesday, according to his defense team. The former Bosnian Serb political leader's war crimes trial continued with the prosecution’s opening statements, while there will be discussions on Tuesday regarding procedural questions and the possibility of continuing the process. Karadzic to make court appearance Karadzic said last week that he will not attend the trial because he was not given enough time to prepare his defense adequately. The tribunal announced that should Karadzic fail to appear in the courtroom on Monday, the trial chamber would hear the proposals of the defense and prosecution and then make a decision on how to proceed. Judge O-Gon Kwon said he would make the decisions after hearing the proposals of Karadzic and the prosecution, adding that one of the options would be to appoint a defense attorney to represent Karadzic. The trial began on October 27 with the opening statements of the prosecution, for which Karadzic was not in attendance. Karadzic is accused of genocide committed against non-Serb civilians of Srebrenica and seven other Bosnia-Herzegovina municipalities, and also for persecution, murder, deportation, inhumane acts, terrorizing, illegal attacks on civilians and taking international hostages during the 1992-95 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
