BELGRADE Tomislav Nikolic says he and Ivo Josipovic "will turn a new page in relations between the two countries that nobody before them had dared to open." The president made the statement as he and his Croatian counterpart visited a primary school in the ethnic Croat-majority village of Tavankut, northern Serbia. Croatian president wraps up visit to Serbia Nikolic told students of schools in the Subotica municipality who attend classes in the Croat language and students of Vojvodina schools who have the "Croat language with elements of national culture" as a subject, that the future of relations between Serbian and Croatian children should not be burdened by experiences adults had to go through in the past. Expressing his confidence that a new page in relations between Serbia and Croatia "is just being opened," Josipovic said that Serbia and Croatia have to offer their citizens, regardless of whether they are Serbs, Croats or any other nationality, everything they need to be able to prosper and maintain their traditions, culture and customs. The two presidents attended the opening of the 12th edition of "Days of Balint Vujkov", an annual literary event, largest of its kind organized by ethnic Croats in the province of Vojvodina. According to announcements, on the second day of Josipovic's official visit he and Nikolic will also be meeting with Serbian and Croatian businesspeople. Josipovic and Nikolic said yesterday in Belgrade that relations between the two countries experienced some progress, but were still burdened by a set of problems, including the issue of missing persons and mutual genocide lawsuits. Nikolic told at a joint press conference that the withdrawal of the lawsuits would establish "complete peace between the two countries and two peoples, because whatever the outcome of the trial, some will not be satisfied." Josipovic said that resoling a number of problems, among which he highlighted the issue of the 1,689 persons missing from the war, was the condition for "resolving relations between Zagreb and Belgrade." Josipovic also addressed MPs in the Serbian parliament on Thursaday where he said that the two countries "need to close the historic pages of conflict." He also spoke with Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and President of the Coalition of Refugee Associations Miodrag Linta. (Tanjug) Tanjug
