After the session, Darija Kisić Tepavčević addressed the media.

"As for the holidays, things will remain the same. The holidays will last from December 31 to January 24," she said.

She pointed out that new measures will apply to entering the country.

When it comes to the omicron strain of coronavirus, measures are being introduced for travelers from South African countries. "Passengers from South Africa and Malawi, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe will be subjected to measures. A PCR test will be performed at the airport. If they are negative, they will be quarantined for 14 days, with the obligation to do another PCR test on the seventh day."

Kisic Tepavcevic appealed to everyone to get vaccinated once again, and said that vaccination is the only way out. "We mostly appeal to young people, because only every third young person has been vaccinated. For them, the best is the Pfizer vaccine, which has proven to be safe for children as well," said the doctor.

As she stated, in case the passengers who enter our country are positive, they will be transferred to the COVID ambulance. When it comes to COVID passes, Kisić Tepavčević said that they have a very significant effect. "COVID passes have a very significant effect when it comes to encouraging young people to immunize. No measure has been adopted on the expanded use of COVID passes," she specified.

She also referred to a new strain of coronavirus.

A slightly higher number of mutations has been observed in omicron strains, as many as 50, of which 10 are in the part where the virus binds to the cell. We do not know whether they affect the clinical picture. No severe form has been registered in South Africa. It is encouraging that the existing vaccines will cover this coronavirus varaint as well. Will it come to us? It doesn't seem as scary as it seemed at first".

She characterized that strain of the virus as "another letter of the alphabet". She states that this variant is no more dangerous than the old ones, and appealed once again for vaccination. Darija Kisić Tepavčević advised everyone to refrain from major celebrations.

"I appeal to all to start from ourselves, to protect ourselves from others, because only if we abstain now, we make the opportunity to return to the kind of celebrations we got used to as soon as possible."

According to earlier media reports, one of the main topics was supposed to be a new strain of coronavirus - omicron, which arrived in some European countries from Africa.

Therefore, the Crisis Staff should tighten measures, as well as due to the upcoming holidays and the arrival of more passengers in Serbia. At the session, as previously announced, there should have been talks about COVID passes, school holidays and measures that will be introduced at the ski resorts.

It should be reminded that 2.180 newly infected with COVID-19 were confirmed in Serbia until the last review, while 53 people died as a consequence of this infection.
