Serbian medics to care for UN chief

Serbia's medical team in in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have been tasked with providing medical care for UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The UN chief is due to visit that African country for the 50th anniversary of its independence. Serbian medics to care for UN chief The Serbian Army (VS) medics are in Congo as part of a UN peacekeeping mission. The six-member team will also be responsible for the rest of the UN delegation that will be there at the time, said the VS in a statement issued in Belgrade today. "The team has already shown its professionalism during a visit by UN under-secretaries-general Alain Le Roy and John Holmes," said the statement. Based on their performance then, the Serbian peacekeepers have been tasked with providing medical support during the secretary general's visit. Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in the DRC Alan Doss thanked the members of the Serbian military for their excellent work during his mandate, according to the VS website. Besides the DRC, Serbia has also sent personnel to Liberia, Ivory Coast and Chad, and the country is due to contribute to the missions in Lebanon and Cyprus.
