A group of the best 200 Serbian students selected in the Travel Through Europe 2009 competition, have left for their month long trip around the EU.

A group of the best 200 Serbian students selected in the Travel Through Europe 2009 competition, have left for their month long trip around the EU. A farewell cocktail party was held before the students left at the Belgrade City Hall. The winners of the competition received Inter Rail tickets, multi-Schengen visas for 30 days, EUR 150 spending money and EURO26 and SIC student cards. 200 of Serbia’s best students in EU trip The government’s European Integration Office Chief Milica Delevic said that she hopes there would be no problems regarding visas for students wanting to travel to the EU next year. “That is news that we have been waiting on for a long time,” she said, adding that Serbia’s citizens are about six months away from visa-free travel. In order to qualify for this trip, students must have a grade point average about 8.5, from a total 10, speak a foreign language. Those selected were also required to have never traveled abroad before this trip. President of the European Movement in Serbia Zivorad Kovacevic reminded that this competition was organized for the fifth year, and that a total of 1,000 students have been able to travel around the continent thanks to the program. The goal of the trip is not just to introduce these young people to the culture and heritage of the European countries, but to improve the image of Serbia in these countries. The first destination is Vienna, because Austria has been a partner in the project for five years already. “The Austrian embassy is helping this project because it is not a regular tourist trip, but a lot more than that. This trip is of an educational character, not only for those that are traveling, but also for the people in these countries that learn something new about Serbia.
