After 17 days of the ex-reservists’ hunger strike, there is still no end in sight to the dispute over unpaid wages. At yesterday’s meeting in Kursumlija between strikers' representatives and a Ministry of Defense delegation no agreement was reached as the ministry continues to maintain that all wages for 1999 were paid out in full. Veterans' hunger strike enters day 17 The strikers, who on Sunday evening barricaded themselves inside the Kursumlija municipal building, are still refusing food and medical assistance, while some are receiving home medical care for exhaustion and ill health. Strikers' representative Dejan Milosevic told B92 that the reservists would continue their strike, since the meeting with ministry representatives ended without agreement. "We had a prolonged discussion for two hours maybe. We didn’t come to any agreement, they stood their ground, so to speak, and nothing in the end. That’s why we’ve asked for the government’s Expert Commission to come as soon as possible," said Milosevic. Secretary of State in the Defense Ministry Zoran Jevtic told B92 that, according to ministry data, all the reservists had already received their wages, and that they had indeed received them in 1999 in six monthly installments. "We couldn’t find anyone who hadn’t receive their 1999 wages. We’re at the disposal of anyone who didn’t get paid, but for all those who took double wages, under very dubious judicial decisions, then they need to be prosecuted," said Jevtic, calling on the reservists to end their hunger strike. The strikers are demanding wages owed to them dating back to 1999 when they fought in the Kosovo war.
