Đorđević pleads “not guilty”

The five counts of indictment the Hague prosecution issued allege forcible removal, deportation, murder and persecution of Serbia’s ethnic Albanian population in Kosovo in the first six months of 1999.

At the time, Đorđević was deputy Minister of the Interior and chief of Serbian police (MUP) public security sector.

Đorđević also said he left Serbia in May 2001, and after spending several years “in various countries”, moved to Montenegro in 2003.

“I also wish to say that the authorities were unaware of my presence in Montenegro,” he told the court as he entered his plea Monday.

Đorđević was arrested in the coastal town of Budva in mid June.
