Former Customs Chief Mihalj Kertes, recently charged with money laundering, has been apprehended Friday.

The indictment mentions the involvement of former FRY president Slobodan Milošević and former deputy prime minister Nikola Šainović, “who cannot be put on trial due to obvious reasons,” Spokesperson for the Special Prosecutor’s Office Tomo Zorić said Thursday.Jovan Zebić died on March 15, and the legal proceedings against him will be adjourned, the Special Prosecutor’s Offfice said yesterday.
Mihalj Kertes was born in 1947. His political career began in January 1989 when he was elected to the Communist Alliance Committee of Vojvodina. He became a member of the Serbia’s Presidency in May of the same year.
He was an associate Interior Minister in 1992, and joined the Serbian government as a minister without portfolio in June 1993. He was appointed as Federal Customs Chief in 1994 and stayed in office until the fall of Milošević regime in October, 2000.
