Pensioner signs over house, land to Kosovo refugees

After reading about their plight in the newspapers, the 84-year-old Stanković decided to sign over his property to the family with seven young children.

“I told them I had a new house, a vineyard, an orchard, and that I want them to have all that because of their living conditions. I made this present from the heart”, Stanković says.

On the other hand, Svetlana and Njegoš Bulatović took time to comprehend that Stanković was in fact going to give them his entire property with no strings attached.

“It’s incredible that there is someone in Serbia ready to give someone a house and all his property”, Njegoš says.

Bulatovićs described the hardship of the past eight years, when, after being forced to leave their home in Kosovo, they had to struggle without jobs, renting apartments and raising seven children.

“The worst thing that can happen to anyone is to leave their home, their house. When we move to our own house this spring, it will be a new spring, a new life for us”, Bulatovićs said.
