Albanian PM Sali Berisha says that the EU should not fear increased inflow of Albanians if it lifts visa regime for Albanian citizens next week. Berisha stressed that, although his country was still poor, the EU could open its borders for the Albanians without fear of immigration such as the one from the early 90’s. "EU shouldn’t be afraid to lift visa regime" Hundreds of Albanians left to European countries in search for work and better life. “There won’t be an exodus,” the Albanian PM pointed out. He also said that lifting visa requirements for Albania would be “the biggest stimulus since the fall of the Iron Curtain”. Berisha says that Albania today is very different than what it used to be in 1991 and that GDP increased by 3.5 percent last year despite the financial crisis. Albania has a “small, vivid, dynamic economy” which is competing with European and other markets thanks to better business conditions and “the best labor market in the world – young, dynamic and educated people,” he pointed out. “The first thing you think of when you’re flying over this country is ‘Switzerland by the sea’. Albania has the best coast in the region,” he said and added that his people were very hospitable. Speaking about the visa-free regime, the PM stated that Albania would make an effort to prevent negative consequences of the decision to the EU member states. “I’m convinced that my people will reward with dignity great confidence of the EU member states in my country,” Berisha concluded.
