"But we have a responsibility to tell the truth when everyone keeps quiet, which is that we live in a country on the brink of bankruptcy, where, in six or nine months' time, salaries will not be paid to doctors and teachers. This country is being shut down. If there is no change of government on Sunday you must be prepared that people will lose what little they have," said Đilas.

According to him, the DS "is not promising anything, but is instead offering Serbia what it can do in the short term."

"We can make a different Serbia in three or four years where people will be able to live from their work. Our best chance is the food industry. By investing there we will increasing exports and launch an investment cycle that everyone will feel. Those EUR 600 million that they set aside for severance money are better invested in 20 towns in Serbia," Đilas told the gathering.

"The DS offers people," he went on, and explained that there was "(Bojan) Pajtić for investments, Miodrag Stojković of education, Dušan Milisavljević of health, (Goran) Ješić for agriculture."

"I have been asking the people form the SNS for days who their candidates are, but do not get a response," Đilas added, and urged voters to, "despite threats and pressure, show courage and go to the polls because no one will know for whom they voted behind the screen."

DS presidency member Miodrag Stojković also addressed the rally to say that the current government was "costing this country more and more each day with its incompetence."

"They took out loans worth five billion euros and led us into bankruptcy. What the SNS and Vučić are offering is a theft of time. Do not let them do the same for the next four years," he said.
