Nikolić: Serbia will always stand by Serbs in Bosnia

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić stated in Trebinje over the weekend that Serbia "will always stand by Serbs from Bosnia-Herzegovina."

TREBINJE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic stated in Trebinje over the weekend that Serbia "will always stand by Serbs from Bosnia-Herzegovina." The country has a historic role to help all states in which Serbs live, he was also quoted as saying. Nikolic: Serbia will always stand by Serbs in Bosnia At a ceremonial session of the Municipal Assembly in this town in Herzegovina, during which the Serbian president was presented with the charter of the honorary citizen of Trebinje, Nikolic said that during the previous year Serbia has done a lot, including certain painful moves, in order to start the EU accession talks. The president said that Serbs in Bosnia can rely on Serbia, stressing that Serbia has a historic role to help all states in which Serbs live and to do all in it might to reach the EU standards. The president called for reconciliation, and underlined the importance of cooperation with other countries, including the ones with which Serbs did not have good relations in the past. He underlined that the charter of the honorary citizens of Trebinje has a great emotional importance for him, since this is the town where he spent the first three most beautiful years of marriage with his wife Dragica, the place where he worked day and night and made many good friends. Nikolic said that the situation in Trebinje and entire Herzegovina is bad since the population reduced to tens of thousands, and promised that he will call on businessmen to invest in this town in Herzegovina aside from Serbia. Nikolic was welcomed by around 10,000 citizens in the town center, where a cultural program was organized in the honor of his visit. Nikolic said addressing the citizens that Serbs on both sides of the Drina River are the same, but noted that they miss bridges, and promised that he will build bridges so that they could live better. Nikolic later laid a wreath at the Memorial to the defenders of Trebinje 1991-1996 and visited the Museum of Herzegovina, where he opened the exhibition dubbed "Jovan Ducic in Diplomacy” dedicated to the Serb poet and diplomat born in Trebinje. Afterwards, Nikolic met behind closed doors with Chairman of the Bosnian Presidency Nebojsa Radmanovic, and wrapped up his tour by a visit to the Hercegovacka (Herzegovina) Gracanica Monastery on Crkvina Hill.
