Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu said that Pristina is focusing all efforts to secure new recognitions. Speaking on the second anniversary of Kosovo’s unilaterally proclaimed independence, Sejdiu said that "Kosovo has good relations with its neighbors in Albania, Macedonia and Montenegro". "Efforts toward more recognitions" The Kosovo Albanian official also stated that he "called on Serbia to recognize Kosovo’s independence as well", according to Albanian news agency ATA. He said that 65 countries have recognized Kosovo over the last two years. “We opened 21 embassies and 10 consular headquarters in countries that have recognized us and we are investing all efforts into further recognitions,” Sejdiu said. The unilateral proclamation was made on Feb. 17, 2008, and was immediately rejected by Belgrade as an illegal act of secession. The territory has not been able to join the UN, while UN's highest court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), is expected to give its opinion this year on the legality of the UDI under international law.
