"We opened 21 embassies and 10 consular headquarters in countries that have recognized us and we are investing all efforts into further recognitions,” Sejdiu said."

-- So a little over one-third of those 65 countries actually count. That's even more lackluster than I thought.

So the serbs have to be blamed, now the western consultants, who is next, the pope?
It would be about time that the muppet show govnt starts making a mea culpa, then maybe, but really maybe some progress could be made!

Sean, the Albanians secured NOTHING by themselves, all the recognitions were from US arm twisting. Does anyone really think the world cares what goes on in Kosovo? But the world does care when international law is broken. The party is over.

This guy scares me, but he is actually only a threat to himself. The almost daily rants about, "we are independent", "we will have many more recognitions", blah, blah, is really getting old, and quite comical. I wonder how the K Albanians feel about this incompetent old man?

The article JohnBoy was referring to is here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/16/AR2010021601058_2.html

The "west" may be tired of sending money to Kosovo, but it has to remember that for most of the period, half of the money never entered the country but went to various western "consultants" who produced reports rather than jobs. The fact that the world has been in economic crisis since the country declared independence might also be noted, meaning the 4% growth Kosovo marked last year is not only better than most other countries in the Balkans (I think Albania was higher), but better than most other countries, period. Maybe it should be noted that although the reporting was done by someone who's name ended in -ici, the editor's ended in -vic.

Why doesn't B92 print what was stated in the washington post yesterday . . about how the west can't afford to prop up Kosovo anymore, about how the west is demanding that Kosovo get rid of the crime and corruption and develop a "viable economy". This silence proves that B92 is just another soros-funded propaganda tool.

From reading Sejdiu's statement, it bears the hallmarks of a desperate man. Recognitions have ground to a halt and Kosovo's economy (if it had any in the first place) hasnt improved a jot since the UDD.

These statements are purely for local consumption, however there is only so much bread and circuses that you can give to the locals.

Fatmir Sejdiu it seem that your getting desperate to win more recognitions. wait for the ICJ decision and try your best to fool Russia and China to win a UN Seat.

When are Kosovo Albanians going to realise that their attempted land-grab of Serbian territory has failed. Two-years on and they’ve only managed to obtain recognitions from one-third of UN member states. If they didn’t manage to secure most of them back in 2008, they never will.
(Sean, 17 February 2010 11:28)

Hopefully you realise that Serbia and Russia have been hard at work stunting recognitions such as El Salvador, Haiti, Bangladesh and PNG. Wait until the ICJ reaches its verdict which will mostly likely be a neutral response. There should be more recognitions as many countries are waiting for ICJ verdict before they recognise Kosovo. They just need the ICJ verdict as a safeguard first.

Daniel

This isn't news. Of course they are trying to secure more recognitions. By the way, 65 in two years is a lot less than they had hoped for.

Two years down the track and our ethnic Albanian citizens are still in denial. "Kosova" was a stillbirth and the sooner that is realised the sooner we can move forward and negotiate a prosperous future together.

Getting recognitions from insignificant islands isn't going to change a thing. You need the larger, more influential countries but they have already made up their mind. They have no interest in supporting NATO expansion, they have no interesting in supporting Western aggression and they have no interest in supporting illegal attempts of secession.

Ali Baba

Without any effords, almost in stand-by, just by doing a lot of nothing, we gained 65 recognitions, while Serbia had to "revitalize" Tito, Bosko Buha, Slivovic&Yugo Florida to avoid more recognitions.
Man, just imagine, how many more recognitions will come with a real foreign policy effords(probably outside Prishtina?)and professional staff!
Happy independence day, everybody

Serbia should highlight the plight of the minorities in Kosovo and how their rights are violated on a daily basis. Attacking busses, destroying cemeteries, intimidation of elderly Serbs are just some of the resent events agains non-albanians. Showing the US and Europe what monster they are about to create.
