Environment conference ends in Belgrade

The first meeting of the Consulting Group ministers and high-ranking state officials on international environmental management closed in Belgrade. The conference adopted a document dubbed the Belgrade Process, which includes guidelines for future activities in the area of the reform of international environmental management. Environment conference ends in Belgrade Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic told reporters that the document implies restructuring of the United Nations system in the area of environmental protection, particularly on the issues regarding climatic changes and sustainable development. He also said that the Belgrade Process will also be discussed at a meeting scheduled to be held in Rome in October, and, subsequently at a conference in Copenhagen in December, which will discuss climatic changes, aiming at making next year new and more powerful conclusions that should become a new world policy. Dulic also said that the American delegation at the Belgrade meeting was "rather large and active", which, he said, is a "novelty". The minister stated that Brazil and China had presented fresh views on how to solve environmental problems.
