Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says that President Boris Tadic acted in line with his powers in dismissing military Chief-of-Staff Zdravko Ponos. Dacic, himself a member of the National Security Council, said that the country’s defense system and state security were not at risk and that people had nothing to worry about. Dacic: Ponos dismissal justified “The way General Ponos made those statements to the public was certainly unacceptable, from the aspect of the command chain and the Constitutional jurisdictions of the president, defense minister and army chief-of-staff,” the interior minister said. “But, the topic that we’re discussing is one that needs to be the subject of a public debate,” he said. Tadic dismissed Lt. Gen. Ponos from the post of Serbian Army (VS) chief-of-general-staff yesterday. The position has been temporarily filled by Ponos’s deputy Lt. Gen. Miloje Miletic.
