Coordinating Body for South Serbia chief Rasim Ljajic's trip to the region yesterday was unsuccessful. Beta reports that after meeting with Ljajic, the political representatives of Albanians in the southern Serbian towns of Bujanovac and Presevo agreed not to return to the Serbian government's coordinating body. Valley Albanians stay out of Coordinating Body "I do not think boycotting institutions is the way to go. If you demand something of the state, then you must demonstrate at least a modicum of good will, and the fact that the Albanians will not take part in the coordinating body will not hinder our activities in 2008," Ljajic told a news conference in Bujanovac. He went on to say that political reasons were behind the Albanian political leaders' decision to boycott cooperation with the coordinating body, due to the upcoming local election. "Either we will shut down the coordinating body and say it no longer exists, which I must say I think would be the best solution, or we will continue carrying out the activities we started, fully cooperating with the local governments and all relevant political subjects," he said. He also said that during the December 17 talks with representatives of Serbs, Albanians and Roma living in southern Serbia, everyone had agreed that the state body's work over the past two to three years had not catered to the needs of local governments and citizens in southern Serbia. He pointed out that the situation in southern Serbia should not be linked with the issue of Kosovo's status. At the news conference, Ljajic and the coordinating body director, Nenad Djurdjevic, also unveiled a draft strategy for the body's work until 2010. Rasim Ljajic (Tanjug)
