"EU future saved Serbia from nationalism”

Rehn made the statement during his speech about "the great European challenge of the political strengthening and gradual expansion of the EU."

Rehn further said that the new government's cooperation with the Hague Tribunal had facilitated the resumption of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) talks with the EU, Beta reported.

Rehn added that "the stakes in the game for the security of the region are even higher, considering the debates in the Security Council on the Kosovo status, based on Martti Ahtisaari's plan."

He stressed that a Security Council resolution was necessary so that the EU could assume the chief role in the future international civilian presence in Kosovo.
