Israel arrested a Fatah militant, pardoned two months ago, Tel Aviv daily Haaretz reports. Fares Mansour, a member Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, was found in possession of explosives and weapons, and is suspected of having resumed militant activity. According to the list published on the Israel Prison Service website, none of the 87 prisoners slated for release has "blood on their hands." Twenty-nine of the detainees reside in the Gaza Strip and 58 live in the West Bank. The convicts received sentences ranging from one to 12 years for various crimes including shooting at Israelis, placing explosive devices, throwing Molotov cocktails, attempted murder, arms trafficking, and contact with foreign agents. Most of them have already served half of their sentences. On Sunday, the Israeli cabinet approved release of some 90 Palestinian prisoners. Olmert has declared his willingness to release a limited number of the roughly 11,000 Palestinian prisoners Israel holds, in an effort to shore up Abbas who has been in a power struggle with Hamas which seized control of the Gaza Strip in mid June. Israel released more than 250 prisoners in July. Israel has said none of the prisoners are serving time for attacks on Israelis. Most of the prisoners come from Abbas' Fatah movement, and none belongs to Hamas.
