Massive forest fires continued to spread through different regions of Macedonia, after claiming one life Monday.

The 51-year-old died of suffocation, trying to protect his house from the blaze near the village of Rashtani.Bitola remains covered in thick cloud of smoke as thousands of fire fighters, soldiers, police officers and local residents and volunteers battle the inferno.
Many local people have been evacuated from the most endangered neighbourhoods in the outskirts of town.
Early on Tuesday, fire-fighting airplanes were also engaged in the operation.
Macedonia’s President, Branko Crvenkovski, sent army units on Monday night from Ohrid and Kicevo to help fight the blaze in Bitola.
The Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski, rushed to Bitola on Monday night to assess the situation and told local media that Macedonia had asked neighbouring countries for assistance.
He said Macedonia expected help from Greece, Turkey, Austria and possibly Croatia.
Macedonia declared a state of emergency last Thursday after a heat wave pushed temperatures up to 45 degrees, and as a number of wildfires spread.
More than 25 are now raging across the country, according to reports.
