The trial against former military leader of Serbs in Bosnia General Ratko Mladic will start on May 14, the Hague Tribunal has announced. It was originally planned for the trial to start in late March, but Mladic's defense said repeatedly that the volume of evidence involved would make it impossible for them to meet that deadline. The indictments notes that units under Mladic's command committed genocide in Srebrenica in July 1995, when they murdered over 7,000 Muslims. The indictment charges Mladic with bombing of Sarajevo and sniper fire in the city, where thousands of civilians were assassinated and wounded. According to the indictment, Mladic committed the crimes as member of the joint criminal enterprise aimed at eliminating or permanent displacement of Muslims, Croats and other non-Serbs from many parts of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
