The Hague Tribunal has rejected Serb Radical Party (SRS) leader Vojislav Seselj request to be temporarily released. Seselj on Wednesday entered a plea on contempt of court charges and filed the motion for temporary release. Tribunal rejects Seselj’s temporary release request Judge O-Gon Kwon said that the reason the court had rejected the request was the fact that the trial chamber Seselj had submitted the request to was not competent to decide on it. According to the judge, the SRS leader needs to submit his release request to the trial chamber in charge of the main proceeding against him for crimes against non-Serbs in Croatia, Vojvodina and Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1991 until 1993. Seselj on Wednesday requested to be released for a “vacation” and explained that he probably would not appear before the judges in the main proceeding before summer break. In late May the Hague Tribunal charged Seselj with contempt of court for refusing to comply with a court order and remove documents that revealed the names of protected witnesses from his website. The Hague Tribunal already sentenced the SRS leader to 15 months in prison for revealing the names of the witnesses from the main trial. The second trial for contempt of court, also for revealing the protected witnesses’ identity, ended in the beginning of June and the court is expected to deliver a verdict. Vojislav Seselj
