An ethnic Albanian from the town of Kosovska Mitrovica, who was arrested yesterday, is the second suspect in Kosovo from a group of nine terror suspects. The group is believed to have planned terrorist attacks in the U.S., Kosovo, and elsewhere, according to Albanian language media. Kosovo: Suspect planned Jihadi base The man, identified as 29-year-old Bajram Aslani, together with Hisert Sherif, planned to build an operative base in Kosovo to recruit others for “militant Jihad”, according to reports. According to the indictment raised by U.S. officials, the suspect is known under the nickname “Ebu Hatab”. In July 2009, a North Carolina court charged eight persons, among whom was Sherifi, also from Kosovo, with supporting terrorism or conspiracy to murder, kidnapping, causing injury to persons and other violations. Alsani was named as his helper in Kosovo. Reports said that Aslani, who was arrested on Thursday by Kosovo police, KPS, under the supervision of EULEX Special Prosecutor and five agents of the U.S. Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI), had maintained regular contact with the North Caroline-based Jihad, whose members were arrested in July 2009. The warrant for his arrest was issued by an American court. If all counts of the indictment are proved against him, the suspect could be sentenced to 40 years in prison, the U.S. Department of State said. Meanwhile, U.S. officials “thanked the Kosovo government for their cooperation upon receiving the news that the suspect had been arrested”, Albanian-language media in Pristina said.

The man, identified as 29-year-old Bajram Aslani, together with Hisert Sherif, planned to build an operative base in Kosovo to recruit others for “militant Jihad”, according to reports.

According to the indictment raised by U.S. officials, the suspect is known under the nickname “Ebu Hatab”.

In July 2009, a North Carolina court charged eight persons, among whom was Sherifi, also from Kosovo, with supporting terrorism or conspiracy to murder, kidnapping, causing injury to persons and other violations.

Alsani was named as his helper in Kosovo.

Reports said that Aslani, who was arrested on Thursday by Kosovo police, KPS, under the supervision of EULEX Special Prosecutor and five agents of the U.S. Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI), had maintained regular contact with the North Caroline-based Jihad, whose members were arrested in July 2009.

The warrant for his arrest was issued by an American court.

If all counts of the indictment are proved against him, the suspect could be sentenced to 40 years in prison, the U.S. Department of State said.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials “thanked the Kosovo government for their cooperation upon receiving the news that the suspect had been arrested”, Albanian-language media in Priština said.
