The trial of those accused of obstructing the arrest of Slobodan Milošević in 2001 has been adjourned until April 22.

The trial of those accused of obstructing the arrest of Slobodan Milosevic in 2001 has been adjourned until April 22. The adjournment comes after the failure of a number of defendants to appear before the Second District Court in Belgrade. Trial of Milosevic supporters adjourned All 34 defendants in the trial are free on bail. Under the law, all the accused must be in attendance for the main hearing to take place. None of the defendants have yet made their case, the hearing having been adjourned for over a year because of their failure to attend. The former Yugoslav president’s supporters are accused of “participating in a rally to obstruct public officials in the line of duty” at Milosevic’s Mir villa in Dedinje on the night of March 30/31, 2001. On the basis of the example they set and their behavior, the charges cite as the ringleaders of group the following individuals: Sinisa Vucinic and Bogoljub Bjelica of the leadership of the Yugoslav Associated Left party, and Ratko Zecevic, Borivoje Drakulic, Jovica Bojinovic and Sasa Rudic of the Socialist Party of Serbia. They are charged with issuing orders and deploying the crowd in certain positions around the villa, while carrying automatic rifles. Moreover, they warned that they had permission to fire in the event of Milosevic being arrested.

All 34 defendants in the trial are free on bail. Under the law, all the accused must be in attendance for the main hearing to take place.
