Minister for Telecommunications and Information Society Jasna Matic has criticized the ten percent increase in VAT on computer hardware. The tax, which now stands at 18 percent, "reflects a lack of understanding of the significance which the information and communication technologies bear for the enhancement of the country's competitiveness, living conditions and work of public enterprises", she said. Minister criticizes computer tax hike At a news conference, Matic pointed out that an additional price rise would not have positive effects for the economy and the citizens, who were already finding it difficult to purchase new computer equipment. Companies wishing to export and be competitive, which is absolutely necessary for Serbia, need to have adequate information and communication equipment so as to appear as credible partners to their colleagues abroad, Matic underscored. The minister reminded that the tax on mobile telephony will be abolished starting January 1, as envisaged by the country's budget.

At a news conference, Matić pointed out that an additional price rise would not have positive effects for the economy and the citizens, who were already finding it difficult to purchase new computer equipment.

Companies wishing to export and be competitive, which is absolutely necessary for Serbia, need to have adequate information and communication equipment so as to appear as credible partners to their colleagues abroad, Matić underscored.

The minister reminded that the tax on mobile telephony will be abolished starting January 1, as envisaged by the country's budget.
