Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic stated on Wednesday that the envisaged economic growth of 1.5 percent in 2010 will be achieved. The figure could "possibly be higher", he added. PM announces 1.5 pct economic growth At the Fourth Business Round Table with the Serbian government, Cvetkovic underscored that Serbia's economic growth in the first half of 2010 was 1.2 percent, that is below one percent in the first quarter and two percent in the second quarter. Cvetkovic stressed that the measures the government implemented in 2009 had positive effects on the GDP, adding that, if compared to other regional countries, Serbia was the only country with economic growth in the first quarter of 2010, whereas in the second quarter some other countries achieved growth as well. The prime minister said that at the beginning of 2010, export increased by 20 percent per month on average, whereas its growth reduced in the second half of the year to about 16 percent. Cvetkovic pointed out that domestic demand is increasing, which creates a certain pressure on prices. The food prices are rising, which is a global trend as well, and this creates pressure on the increase of inflation that must be maintained within the envisaged limits, as otherwise the monetary policy would have to be restrictive, which would negatively affect the economic growth, he underscored.
