The Executive Committee of the National Bank of Serbia decided on July 22 to keep the key interest rate at eight percent per annum. It was stated that the Committee, appointed by the new law to take over the Monetary Committee authorities, considered the economic movements in Serbia at the session. Key interest rate held at 8 pct. The last change in the central bank's key interest rate occurred on May 11, when it was lowered from 8.5 to eight percent, and since the beginning of 2010, it was reduced by 1.5 percent point in total. The central bank uses the interest rate for two-week repo operations as a key interest rate. In repo operations, the bank sells securities, with an obligation to buy them off with an interest, after a specific amount of time.
