Deputy PM Jovan Krkobabic says that higher pensions in Serbia can be expected in April 2011. He said this position was fueled by optimism that the economic situation in the country would stabilize by then. "Pensions will rise in 2011" Krkobabic, who is also the leader of the Pensioners Party (PUPS), told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik that the recent talks with a visiting IMF delegation on reforms of the pension system went successfully. Asked whether pensions could be reduced, Krkobabic said this would never happen "as long as he was in the government". "Pensions can only go up, they were frozen in 2009 due to the economic situation, as well as other budget-funded salaries," Krkobabic said.
