Deputy PM Bozidar Djelic wants central bank chief Radovan Jelasic to declare his support for the cabinet policy. Djelic was reacting to the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) governor's statement Friday that the stability of prices will be hard to maintain next year, as the government, in his words, intends to back down from its previously formulated policy of decreased public spending, contained in its budget memorandum. Djelic, Jelasic spar ahead of budget debate Now Djelic would like to know why the NBS has failed to pay off its debt to the Serbian budget this year, as well as what the governor's plans for increasing the country's exports are. All this came ahead of an extraordinary session scheduled for Monday that should see the government adopt the draft budget for next year, and send the document to parliament for adoption. The eagerly anticipated session was delayed several times without explanation other than that the ministers "were engaged in other activities", therefore unable to attend cabinet sessions, as was the case last Friday. The legal deadline for the government to send the draft to parliament expired on November 1. Djelic on Saturday spoke to reporters to criticize Jelasic for – speaking to the media instead of addressing his colleagues directly. "Enough with name calling now, it's time to work together," Djelic added, and concluded that "monetary and fiscal policy must be harmonized."
