A Serbian delegation is participating at the autumn session of the World Bank and IMF that began yesterday. The delegation in Washington is being led by Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic, Economy and Regional Development Minister Mladjan Dinkic and Finance Minister Mirko Cvetkovic. Serbian team at IMF, World Bank session Djelic told B92 that they had presented the chiefs of these financial institutions the results of the government’s work, stressing economic growth of 7.3 percent this year, the best in Europe. The deputy prime minister stated that an IMF delegation would be traveling to Serbia next week, where they will speak to government representatives about steps that have to be taken to reduce the foreign trade deficit. He said that they would also discuss whether Serbia needed to come to a new financial arrangement with the institution. “We’ll assess the arrangement, although Serbia doesn’t need the IMF’s money, but their advice and a neutral verification of our aims would be welcome. Of course, the question is whether we’ll have a similar arrangement for next year, or if we’ll negotiate for another month or two, and then sign an agreement for 2009. That’s an issue we’ll consider in Belgrade,” said Djelic. The vice-president said the delegation would have a meeting with representatives of the biggest investment banks, such as Credit Suisse and Citibank. He said that further possible financing for Serbia would be assessed at those encounters. . Bozidar Djelic (FoNet, archive)
