The European Union backed the Serbian Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development with a EUR 30 million donation.

University infrastructure revamped thanks to EU donation

The presentation of the project results brought together Education Minister Srdjan Verbić, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport, Minister without Portfolio responsible for EU integration Jadranka Joksimović and Belgrade University Rector Vladimir Bumbasirević, who underlined that thanks to joint efforts and provision of the latest equipment, conditions for studying have improved.

Through the project titled “High Education Teaching Infrastructure Project (HETIP)”, labs, research facilities, teaching and utility facilities have been renovated in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Niš, Kraljevo, Novi Pazar, Bor, Vrnjačka Banja, Cacak and Leskovac.

EU HETIP quite symbolically ended where it had started in the premises of the University of Belgrade whose renovation the EU financed with EUR 1 million.

Thanking the EU for the donation, Bumbasirević presented Davenport with a certificate of appreciation.

Davenport said that after the renovation efforts, the rectorate building "impresses with its beauty," adding he was glad that the project finished on time.

Since 2000, the EU has donated over EUR 63 million to the education sector in Serbia, Tanjug said.
