Criminal complaint filed against ex-minister Mrkonjic

The ministry, led by Zorana Mihajlovic, filed the complaint over the Ub-Lajkovac stretch of the Corridor 11 highway that was never opened to traffic, the daily Vecernje Novosti writes on Monday.

This section of the highway has had 4.5 out of 12.5 kilometers paved, but will have to be rebuilt as it has been damaged, and has had clay built into the road's foundation.

The building of this stretch started in 2010 and ended in 2014, while Mrkonjic headed the ministry, and cost 75 million euros from the state budget, with all payments directly controlled by the ministry. The cost of rebuilding the road, once again from the budget, will exceed eight million euros.

The newspaper said that beside Mrkonjic, the complaint names directors of several construction and road maintenance companies, as well as engineers and supervisors, including from PzP Beograd, AS Putevi Uzice, AD Planum, the Road Institute, Corridors of Serbia, and Transportation Institute CIP.

The ministry decide to ask judicial authorities to determine whether and to what extent these persons are legally responsible after receiving a report about the condition of the road from CIP and Roads of Serbia.
