After a meeting with his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic on Wednesday, Kurz said that Austria wishes to see Serbia in the EU and added that a positive development in the negotiating process is necessary.
"We had a successful 'Friends of Serbia' meeting in Brussels, and there are several more questions that need to be resolved," Kurz said and expressed the belief that the first chapters in the accession talks could open in the second half of the year.
Noting that Serbia is on the right track, Kurz said that his talks with Dacic covered the issues that need to be tackled.
Earlier this week, Kurz had talks with Jean Asselborn, minister for foreign affairs of Luxembourg as the country that should take over EU presidency as of July 1, and on this occasion, he backed prompt opening of chapters for Serbia.
Asselborn promised that he would advocate prompt opening of the chapters but he also noted that Germany and certain countries demand completion for several more open issues in the dialogue on normalization of relations with Pristina.
