NOVI SAD Wreaths were laid at the building in Novi Sad where the Great People's Assembly decided on the unification of Vojvodina with Serbia on November 25, 1918. The ceremony was led by Novi Sad Mayor Milos Vucevic and Speaker of the City Assembly Sinisa Sevic. Anniversary of unification of Vojvodina with Serbia Vucevic said that November 25 is one of the most important dates in the history of Novi Sad, Vojvodina and Serbia as well, because this is the day when the Great People's Assembly adopted the decision which fulfilled the dreams of the ancestors. "The decisions adopted during the Great People's Assembly made it possible for life to function normally in Novi Sad and in entire Vojvodina, and an impressive fact is that the right to vote was given to women and that electoral regulations were clearly defined even then," Vucevic told reporters. According to Tanjug, the mayor noted that the assembly "adopted an unambiguous decision to irrevocably unify all areas of Vojvodina and Serbia." The territory was previously part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which broke up in the wake of the First World War. (Tanjug) Tanjug
