NOVI SAD, BELGRADE The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) started collecting signatures for dismissal of the Vojvodina government and early provincial elections Sunday in Novi Sad. The SNS will organize the petition signing in towns and villages across Vojvodina on Monday, SNS Presidency member Maja Gojkovic has said. SNS starts petition for early provincial election The Progressives launched the petition in order to win support for requests they presented at a rally on Friday. “It is certain that every petition with a large number of citizens’ signatures produces legal and political consequences,” she told reporters. “I would like to see how the Democratic Party (DS) leadership in Vojvodina will ignore such a large number of signatures,” Gojkovic added. Parties and organizations that took part in the rally on Friday joined the petition – the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO). SNS Novi Sad Board President and Novi Sad Mayor Milos Vucevic announced on Saturday that the petition would be launched. He added that they requested a draft declaration on protection of Vojvodina’s rights to be withdrawn, resignation of Vojvodina Executive Council President Bojan Pajtic who proposed the declaration and early provincial elections. New Serbia (NS) has also requested that the declaration be withdrawn and called for Pajtic’s resignation. “We call on members of national communities and especially on (Vojvodina Assembly Speaker and Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians leader) Istvan Pastor to make a reasonable move and deny further support to the Democratic Party which does not represent the majority Serbian people in Vojvodina,” NS Presidency member Aleksandar Bogdanovic said. He added that the NS joined the SNS in their requests and petition in order to show how citizens of Novi Sad felt about the declaration and the provincial authorities. (Beta) Tanjug
