After the new government is formed in Serbia, a new format of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue will follow, Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak has said. However, he did not want to reveal details of the new concept. Slovak FM: No better option for Serbia than EU He noted that something would have to change in order to make the dialogue more efficient. Lajcak pointed out that there was no better choice for the Serbian citizens than the EU, despite the current crisis in the Union. He said that he could not comment on results of the Serbian elections that were held on May 6. “I did not vote in the elections, so I have no right to be satisfied or dissatisfied. This is, of course, a decision of the Serbian citizens. It is good for us, first that the parliamentary elections were democratic, and second that it is practically obvious that the political option for which European integrations are the main priority will continue to run Serbia. I believe that this is good news, primarily for Serbian citizens and of course for the EU,” he told daily Vecernje novosti. The Slovak FM once again stressed that there was no better option than the EU. “Europe has faced many challenges. This is one of them. I have no doubt that we will come out stronger from the problems that we are currently facing. But regardless of what the EU needs to deal with now, there is no better choice for the Serbian citizens,” he explained. According to him, it is up to the Serbian citizens to decide what will be the first task of the new government. “But judging by the way the campaign was conducted and what its main topics were, it is logical that those are economy and citizens’ social status. Also, issues that have to do with speeding up of the EU integration are important. Those are all the topics that have been on the agenda in the relations between the EU and Serbia,” Lajcak was quoted as saying. He noted that getting a date for the beginning of the EU accession talks by the end of the year would depend on the way Serbia would solve certain issues.
