The arrival of Dutch Royal FrieslandCampina to the Serbian market "will have a positive effect on the dairy industry and agriculture". This was asserted on Friday in Belgrade by Minister of Agriculture and Trade Dusan Petrovic. Takeover of dairies "good for industry" "If such a large company is interested in investing in Serbia, it means the country has huge potential that should be put to even better use in the future," Petrovic said at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. "Campina is specific in that it is organized as a cooperative with thousands of owners, which should have a good influence on Serbian farmers and agricultural companies," he explained. Every competition, especially on the food market, is welcome in Serbia, the minister noted, calling on others to invest as well. The Holland-based multinational company announced the takeover from Salford of two large dairies based in Serbia - Imlek and Suboticka. Imlek Director Slobodan Petrovic said takeover could take from three to six months to complete. He added he did not expect any problems with Serbia's Commission for the Protection of Competition - "because the market share will not change with the sale, since the new owner will be buying what already exists". Royal FrieslandCampina and Salford Capital Partners Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the acquisition of the companies Imlek Beograd and Mlekara Subotica, by which FrieslandCampina intends to strengthen its business position in Southeast Europe - the region with 76 million consumers - said a statement for the media issued earlier this week by FrieslandCampina.
