Serbia's health minister, who chose to have his back surgery abroad, is coming back to work on Monday. This has been announced by G17 Plus leader and government minister Mladjan Dinkic. Minister to return to work after controversial surgery Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic, also of G17 Plus, will resume his duties after returning from Munich, Germany. According to Dinkic, this will be “an occasion to make changes in Serbian health system and remove its deficiencies”. Milosavljevic's decision to have the operation abroad generated criticism in the media, who reported that the discal hernia procedure was routinely performed in Serbia, and that the trip abroad showed that the health minister lacked confidence in the health care system that has been his responsibility for the better part of the last decade. “I visited Tomica Milosavljevic upon his return, he really nearly missed staying paralyzed for the rest of the life,” Dinkic told a news conference in Belgrade on Wednesday. Dinkic also said that the surgery was “inevitable, that it had was not routine and that it was not performed in Serbia”. “Milosavljevic has done plenty in the reform of Serbian health system, however this job is far from ideal and it’s not completely finished because there are many problems in Serbian health care,” Dinkic stressed. According to him, “everybody from the health system, from the ministry to directors of state health institutions, should assume responsibility for the parts of the system which have not been improved”. According to Dinkic, the citizens of Serbia “will get a better health system by the end of this government’s mandate”. The journalists who were at the airport in Belgrade when Milosavljevic returned also spotted that his wife picked him up in a brand new car. When asked why the minister’s new car was not reported in his property card, Dinkic replied that it was “only bought three weeks ago”, and that it would be duly reported.
