Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci says that Belgrade has begun considering recognizing Kosovo’s unilateral independence. Serbian Kosovo Minister Goran Bogdanovic called Thaci’s statements a marketing ploy. Thaci: Belgrade considering recognition Thaci said that he had reached this conclusion during certain internal talks with political leaders from Belgrade, without wishing to quote any names. “I think that you’ve begun to see the first signs from Belgrade. I don’t want my statements to spoil Belgrade’s will,” he said. Asked whether there was the remotest chance of resuming dialogue over status with the Belgrade authorities, Thaci said that this was Belgrade’s wish, but that it did not come into the question, as Kosovo’s independence had progressed very far. “The process of Kosovo independence cannot be reversed, and the opinion of the International Court of Justice can change this, as it is there to give opinions, not take decisions. The decision on independence was taken in consultations with international actors and after talks with Serbia,” said the minister. Bogdanovic said that Thaci's comments were “political marketing” and that Serbia would never recognize Kosovo. He dismissed the notion that Serbia was recognizing Kosovo through any of its actions or activities. “Neither this nor a future government will allow a part of its territory to be usurped, and Thaci’s statements serve to mollify the Kosovo public, due to the panic that a very small number of countries have recognized Kosovo,” said the minister.
