Barack Obama’s adviser Dan Shomon says that the presidential candidate is very familiar with Serbs in Chicago. Shomon said that Obama, as senator of Illinois, was very familiar with the large Serb community in Chicago, and that many had donated to his presidential campaign. Obama’s ties with Serb community Shomon, who has been Obama’s political director for campaigns and a friend for many years, told daily Vecernje Novosti that Obama had met with leading Serb businesspeople, as well as people from the construction and oil industries. “Melissa Bean, an Illinois congressional representative of Serbian descent, is very important. Many people from Illinois will be in Obama’s cabinet and administration if he becomes president. So, if she is re-elected to Congress, which I believe she will be, Melissa Bean will play a part in the decision making process,” Shomon said.
