Montenegro did not get a date for the beginning of the accession talks with the EU, the European Council said in Brussels on Friday. The European Council has decided that Montenegro could get a date for the start of the accession negotiations in June 2012 but on a series of conditions. Montenegro fails to get accession talks date “The European Council supports European Commission’s positive assessment on a good progress of Montenegro that has achieved generally satisfactory results,” European Council President Herman Van Rompuy stated. “With an intention to open the accession negotiations with Montenegro in June 2012, the European Council is charging the Council itself with assessing Montenegro’s progress in the implementation of reforms with a focus on the rule of law and fundamental rights and with a special stress on combat against corruption and organized crime through a report that will be presented by the (European) Commission in the first half of 2012,” it is said in the draft conclusion on Montenegro presented by Rompuy on Friday.
