The school year might not begin on September 1 in Montenegro, after announcements of a possible strike by the Teachers’ Union. According to the union, classes would not begin on September 1 if it is confirmed that teachers’ wages will be decreased this year. Montenegrin teachers on verge of strike The fear of decreasing wages is based on an earlier decision of the Montenegrin parliament and the adoption of the budget rebalance which calls for decreasing wages for employees of the state administration. Late paychecks are another reason for strike announcements in Montenegro, with workers showing their dissatisfaction towards company administrations and public institutions, threatening to radicalize striking measures. For example, the union of workers at Radio-Television Niksic warned the company administration that they would prevent people from entering the building if they do not receive at least one of the three wages they are owed by the end of August.
