Serbia and its citizens belong to the family of European nations, opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic has stated. According to him, the SNS is interested in providing a different atmosphere and a more favorable environment for European, especially German, investors. Serbia "belongs in EU", opposition leader says Nikolic and his deputy Aleksandar Vucic are paying a three-day visit to Germany. They spoke to Hamburg's State Secretary Wolfgang Schmidt and German Human Rights Commissioner Markus Loning, the SNS has stated. “The SNS believes that Germany, as the most powerful EU state, represents Serbia’s strategic ally and that Serbia, thanks to good customs agreements with Russia, can in the future be a ‘bridge’ for export of German goods, technology and capital to the Russian market,” Nikolic stressed. The SNS leader noted that the party had prepared a draft law on public procurement and a proposal to open an office for quick answers in order to ensure fast, simple and corruption-free procedure for all foreign and domestic investors. He told Loning that Serbia respected all the rights of religious and ethnic communities living in Serbia and pointed out that not a single serious political party in Serbia would deny values of a multicultural society. Tomislav Nikolic and Aleksandar Vucic “Government should not underestimate its rivals” SNS official Jorgovanka Tabakovic has stated that the current government should defend itself with results instead of ”underestimating its political competition”. She told a press conference that the government needed to submit a report on the results it had achieved and repeated that it had done a poor job. “The exact data and minuses cannot be turned into pluses,” Tabakovic stressed and added that this was the worst government in the last “half a century”. According to her, instead of EUR 1,000 in free shares each citizen got a new debt worth EUR 1,250 from the government, instead of promised seven percent increase in annual production the citizens got only two percent in four years. The SNS official claims that the state’s debt had increased by more than EUR 6bn in the last four years, exceeding the legal threshold of indebtedness of 45 percent of the GDP. She added that all that one needed to do in order to see the drop in the standard of living was “to open one’s fridge or look in one’s pocket”. Tabakovic said that the Democratic Party (DS) was “aware that it does not deserve to spend another day in power”. Jorgovanka Tabakovic (Tanjug) Tanjug
