Kosovo Serbs surprised by “lack of support” Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic believes the fererendum at the moment represents a “waste of time and energy”. Kosovska Mitrovica Mayor Krstimir Pantic thinks that the referendum will strengthen Serbia’s position in the dialogue with Pristina. He added that he understood that such position was caused by the pressure from the European Union but expressed hope that Belgrade would change its stance. “I am sure that our government and President (Boris) Tadic will accept our decision and that they will support the referendum in the end because the outcome of the referendum can only strengthen our team’s negotiating position and contribute to a better solution regarding Kosovo and Metohija’s status issue,” Pantic pointed out. When asked how they would finance the referendum, he said that they will not take a single dinar from the Serbian state budget or local self-governments’ budgets. “Members of municipal referendum committees and members of election boards will volunteer and we already have about 20 firms that have signed up to sponsor printing of the ballots,” the Kosovska Mitrovica mayor explained.
