Ethnic Albanian MP Riza Halimi has assessed that high insurance taxes paid at administrative crossings will lead to reduced freedom of movement. The taxes will introduce "total blockage", Halimi said, speaking of the checkpoints between central Serbia and Kosovo. "Insurance fees could destabilize area" "Instead of feeling joy over the implementation of the agreement on freedom of movement, there has been huge disappointment due to high vehicle insurance taxes. In this way, the administrative obstacles for entrance of vehicles with Kosovo licence plates turned into insurmountable financial impediments," Halimi said. Halimi spoke during the parliament session in Belgrade on Monday when MPs were asking government representatives questions, and pointed out that the situation "considerably reduces freedom of movement and introduces complete blockage". Halimi wondered "what the Serbian government will do to resolve the problem": "If this situation lasts too long, the government will be responsible for the destabilization of the situation in that area, because the social situation is critical as it is." Halimi underlined that these unreasonable measures affect all citizens, mainly ethnicAlbanians from south of Kosovo, taking into account that the taxes, as he said, "are not charged at crossings in northern Kosovo".
