An extraordinary Municipal Council meeting has been called in Bujanovac after Serbian National Council announced it wanted to "divide the town into two parts". Three organizations from Bujanovac founded the Serbian National Council a week ago. The organizers have announced that the council’s goal is to form two municipalities – Serb and ethnic Albanian Bujanovac. Tensions raised in southern town Bujanovac Municipal President Saip Kamberi told B92 late last night that he had called a Municipal Council meeting for 11:00 CET on Friday in order to assess security and political situation after Serbian National Council had been formed. The ethnic Albanian official added that the situation in the multi-ethnic community was not good and that the meeting would be public. Kamberi also pointed out that he was familiar with positions of “some local officials from former Socialist-JUL authority” but that the current Serbian-Albanian coalition was successfully working. He added that he expected the state officials to stop such initiatives. According to him, the situation could become alarming if such requests continued. The three Bujanovac-based organizations formed the Serb National Council last Saturday. The organizers said at the time that the multi-ethnic community’s future laid in partition of the municipality into two parts.
