The EU mission will remain in Kosovo at least two more years despite opposite claims of Kosovo Albanian PM Hashim Thaci. Albanian language daily Koha Ditore writes that International Civilian Office (ICO) Spokesman Andy McGuffie said that despite "some results there were still many areas that demanded a lot of work in implementation of Martti Ahtisaari’s plan". According to him, OSCE will remain committed to the development of a democratic multi-ethnic society, and continue to monitor and promote the rights of all communities living in Kosovo. "Furthermore, the mission will continue to support and strengthen the democratic institutions that it helped to establish," the Vienna-based OSCE center said in a statement. On July 22, the ICJ delivered the advisory opinion saying that Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence did not constitute a violation of international law since there was no provision in that law prohibiting it, but would not take a stand on any entity's right to secession.

“OSCE takes note of the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice. I want to emphasize that the OSCE Mission in Kosovo will continue its work as mandated in a status-neutral manner,” he said.
