Slovenian President Danilo Turk stated that the Dutch government was not the only one opposing the implementation the SAA between Brussels and Belgrade. He was referring to the fact that the Dutch having been blocking the implementation of the agreement pending Serbia's full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. “Many countries agree with Netherlands” “I think that there are many countries in the EU which share the Netherlands' position. It would be politically ill thought through to believe that the Dutch government is the only one halting the signing of the SAA,” Turk told Belgrade daily Danas. He added that unblocking of the Interim Trade Agreement – which is a part of the SAA that Serbia has been unilaterally implementing since the start of this year – would be a compromising solution, but that it depended on the new report of the Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz whose evaluation “was still crucial”. The Slovenian president said that the enlargement of the EU "must continue", but added that it would “depend on each candidate country’s readiness to make further progress”. “It is obvious that different countries have reached different levels regarding the fulfillment of the conditions. That’s why it would be unsuitable to have a 'package' approach, regardless of from the possible objections that could appear against one or two countries,” he said. “All the countries which aspire to become members of the EU should keep their strong will and continue the activities leading toward that goal,” concluded Turk.
